The Top 3 SEO Myths

posted on: June 3rd, 2010

There are many SEO myths doing the circuit, but here are some of the main ones to set the record straight: When writing HTML code do not use tables There are those that suggest that having table in HTML code can severely damage your web design, and thus rankings. However this is our first SEO myth. When tables are created in HTML they are easy for search engines to crawl, and this has been true since search engines first began. The myth originated from web developers who are pro tableless web designs and this has influenced people to believe that these types of designs will have a more positive impact on page rankings. Never use image links - always opt for text links Again this is not sound advice, and image links have actually been a perfectly effective means of creating links for several years. Search engines can follow these links easily and they can be used for navigation. Just ensure that the alt tags replicate what would be used in the anchor text if you were using a text link. A word of caution, however; make sure you limit the volume of large images used so that the site speed is not impaired. Never use Flash on a website This is a common myth and although it's wise to avoid using Flash across the whole site for search engine optimisation, you can employ it here and there without impacting the search engines. You will not be penalised, but ensure that the essential elements of the site are not built in Flash - such as the content. At Click Consult we can offer more advice on your internet marketing campaign.

Cleaning up the dirty word: SEO

posted on: July 2nd, 2009

It is not difficult to understand why many people see SEO (search engine optimisation) as a dirty word. Firstly, the explanations, definitions and such are all littered with industry related jargon. This makes it very difficult for people, the ones who are not SEOs, to understand SEO. Secondly, people tend to think that success is something that naturally happens if you follow a search engine optimisation formula, but that isn't necessarily the case. Maybe these people think that success is strewn over you like fairy dust by the fairy godmother of prosperity, who knows? Most people think that those who do something to propel themselves into success do so in an underhanded and conniving way. So they assume that SEO is underhanded and conniving, thus it becomes a dirty word. This is a misconception if ever there was one. A good internet marketing company can run an effective and ethical SEO campaign for you. Clearing the air People need to rethink their viewpoint on SEO. Really, SEO is there to help you. The modern business world is cut throat and companies will do anything to stay at the top. Now, the internet has revolutionised things even more. You are competing with millions, if not billions, of other websites and everyone wants to be seen, wants to be noticed and need traffic. So you need to do all that you can, legally and fairly, to get the attention of the cyber public. SEO, done well and not black hat SEO, is nothing more than a good tool to help you get where you deserve to be. Success comes from hard, honest work and SEO is the light that shows your potential clients where you are.
