Be Tempting With Your News

posted on: June 25th, 2010

Finding the subject for an online press release can be difficult. Although traditionally press releases are used to announce a new product or publicise an event, online press releases are increasingly being used as a basic part of online marketing. This means that you might not have the subject for a press release before you decide you need to use one. If you don’t have anything newsworthy in your press release, it's unlikely that anyone will read it. That said, newsworthiness is really a matter of opinion. By finding the right angle for your press release, you can make it seem incredibly newsworthy. (Hint: newspapers do this all the time. Take a look.) Talk to our consultants at web marketing company Click Consult when you're searching for the right angle. No-one can guarantee that their press release is going to tempt readers, but there are certain factors that are well-known to attract attention. Here are a few of them: *Be likeable. If an internet user feels friendly toward you, not only will they read your content, they're more likely to follow your site link and read your content there as well. *Tap into the zeitgeist. If everyone is talking about a certain topic, you can increase your chances of being seen by talking about it in your online press releases as well. *Use numbers. Studies show again and again that internet users love things like statistics and lists. A press release that features the outcome of a low-key customer survey can net more traffic than one announcing a genuine event.

Managing Your Internal Links

posted on: June 23rd, 2010

In search engine optimisation, the number of internal links found within a web page plays an important role. The number of links per page will have a large influence on how PageRank will be disseminated throughout the site. Previously a webmaster would try to design the site so that PageRank was focussed on the most relevant or important pages using a method called PageRank sculpting. This is essentially a means of using the NoFollow feature on links with low importance, so that PageRank was distributed across high importance pages instead of being watered down. However, this form of maximising the PageRank is now ineffective and there is no way of limiting the way PageRank is shared out amongst all the links, including those that have nofollow activated. To ensure that only the most crucial web pages get through PageRank use the link consolidation process. This method will ensure that only those links necessary appear on a page and that any links that are unnecessary and could eat into PageRank are kept in a different area of the website. If you want to look at examples of this in action, look at sites where on the homepage there are links to pages like Terms and Conditions, delivery information and privacy statements. These pages will not benefit the site if they get a high PageRank, whereas if PageRank is distributed to high level category pages that feed into products, the advantages are significant. By grouping the three links you can minimise this likelihood of this happening. At internet marketing company Click Consult we can help you develop a site that is well designed for SEO.
