poor web design

Why professional web design is vital

posted on: November 5th, 2009

When you’re trading online, or even if your website is just a brochure for your business, your website acts as your company. It is a reflection of your business practices, your business ethics and generally of you. Therefore, you want your website to come across as being professional, informative, friendly and above all else, easy to use. Despite this, many businesses still believe that they can save money on their web design by enlisting a family friend, student or someone with a computer to do some web development and throw together a website for them. It’s a very cheap solution, can be completed quickly and doesn’t seem to matter one way or the other. Until, that is, you discover the fact that your website isn’t producing any ROI. A cheap web design that has been completed by an inexperienced, amateur web designer may not cost you much in terms of financial outlay, but the lost business and damage to your company’s reputation caused by an inferior website can be extremely costly. If your website is an extension of your business, and an ambassador of your company on the internet, what does your website say about you? Does it say that your business is professional and that your services are first class, or does it say that you shouldn’t be trusted at all? Look at your website from your customer’s point of view. Would you want to use your services? At Click Consult we’re experts at designing successful websites and we know what works, and more importantly, what doesn’t on the internet.

Woes of web templates

posted on: July 2nd, 2009

Business web design is very specific and needs to meet strict criteria in order for it to be of the greatest benefit to your company . However many businesses, especially the smaller ones, take the cheap and easy route of using template designs for their business website design. This is a huge mistake in most cases. Templates are not unique and they are restrictive. Template web designs, especially the free ones, are there for the home blogger, the hobbyist and your own personal website but when it comes to a professional standard - they don't cut it. This is why so many businesses choose to use professional web developers to design and build their website. Template web design is not meant for business use at all and as such is not suited to the job. Many company websites fall flat because of their template designs and in only gets worse from there. After you find out a template is not working you may try another. Eventually you may employ a complete web design overhaul and ditch the idea of template web design completely. This is where you not only started off on a bad footing, but have lost all the customers you have built up thus far. Not a pretty picture at all. Template pitfalls Many templates are restrictive and they are generic. That means that your web design is going to look exactly like or strangely familiar to hundreds, if not thousands, of other websites out there. A copycat appearance is not flattering and nor is it professional. If you have to or are using a template, make sure it is not the most popular ones available. Templates don’t usually offer you the options to customize enough to make your website stand out from the crowd. If you are using a template to save time and money, don’t try to create a unique template by trying to customize it. You are not saving anything and are wasting your time.  Sometimes it may be necessary to start with a template and then get your website professionally designed once you have started.  Make sure that you use a reputable web dev company who can show you some of their other client sites.
