Bright Colours Can Enhance A Web Design

posted on: August 4th, 2010

Using vivid colours in a web design can be tricky. It is all too easy to mismanage bright combinations and end up with a loud and messy-looking website. However, avoiding the brighter hues altogether can leave a site looking dull and muted, or even worse, lacking in personality, a bit like a person who always wears beige in order to avoid making a colour faux pas. Many experts like to advise that certain colours convey particular meanings, such as green being restful and red being fiery, but this is an over-simplification. There are many different types of green and red, with vivid lime green being more zestful than restful, and dark red appearing sombre rather than passionate. Each unique hue should really be considered on its own merits, and combinations should be looked at thoughtfully. When using vivid colours, it can be helpful to begin with one colour and then match others against it. Alternatively, an existing colour scheme can be used; this can be natural, such as the colours in a bunch of flowers, or man-made, like the combination of shades found in a favourite rug. Sometimes, just one or two bright colours can give a website an overall feeling of brightness, while the rest is fairly neutral. In fact, neutral shades can enhance colourful areas nearby, making them appear brighter by contrast. That is why a grey background can be useful when assessing colours on screen. Here at web marketing agency Click Consult, we know how to use bright colours effectively if a web design requires it.

Web Design With Content In Mind

posted on: May 27th, 2010

Often during web development the structure of a page ends up being imposed upon the content. Numerous columnar and box-like shapes surround and enclose the text, creating a strong and sometimes distracting abstract pattern on the screen. There can also be a tendency to limit written content, partly in order to fit into the page scheme and partly due to the idea that articles on the Web should not exceed a certain length. These restrictions may be detrimental and, with skilful design, they are unnecessary. The use of rectangular borders and blocks of colour around content can overwhelm the text, making it disappear into the background. In addition, having too many elements on the page can confuse the eye, giving an overall look that conveys chaos rather than professional orderliness. The answer lies in a lighter touch. Blocks of text speak for themselves within a thoughtful design, and need not be announced clumsily with borders, boxes and the like. If the paraphernalia of design is kept to a minimum, the text can leap out and grab the reader's attention. The amount of content on a page need not always be small as, with careful design, a larger piece of writing can be made both easy to scan and relaxing to read in full. At the other extreme, even the shortest portion of text might lose its impact if forced into a poorly-designed page. At Click Consult our design team knows how to create web pages that bring content to the fore.
