Why are people scared of Pay per Click?

You hear the ongoing argument of SEO vs. PPC all the time in this industry, the old age discussions on traffic quality and volume.

One thing which strikes me about the two avenues of search is people’s propensity to believe that PPC is inferior to SEO. On the face of things you can see why, pay per click charges you for every user that comes to your site. Measure this against the free traffic that comes through the natural listings and then argument seems to be over pretty quickly. I believe that people are put off pay per click for this main reason.

Understanding your budget and creating a PPC campaign to reflect this is where most people fall down. The key is to understand your business first and what you are trying to achieve then to apply these theories and ideas to the pay per click.

I think the main difference between SEO and PPC is understanding. The majority of advertisers will readily admit that they have no idea how to improve their natural listings and reach the first page. On the flipside, the process of pay per click seems so simple, yet the journey to successful ROI is littered with bumps and divots in the road. Most users will fall down on their understanding of the Google pay per click algorithm and the theory of quality score and it will seem like money down the drain. Understanding this area is crucial to achieving successful ROI on Google Ad words, as greater quality will bring down CPC’s and allow you to achieve more traffic for your money.
