SEM as an Online Marketing Tool

Search engine marketing contributes to online marketing in that it promotes your website by increasing your visibility in search engines.  SEM can also be defined as buying paid search listings.

Online marketing uses SEM as a method in which to place media along the different stages of your customer lifecycle, thus contributing to your campaign by driving traffic to your website, it does this by taking your traffic directly from your target market and making your site easier to find.  SEM covers activities that are involved in optimising search engine results as well as submitting websites addresses to directories.

Online marketing strategies are about generating leads, increasing sales and brand awareness as well as enhanced visibility.  SEM has the potential to deliver all this as it uses search engines and directories to deliver targeted traffic to your website.

SEM requires a lot of time and effort in your online marketing campaign and requires that you continuously monitor traffic on your site. Traffic needs to be analysed and interrogated in order to ascertain how many visits are converting into sales, or subscriptions.

Tracking this movement will help you determine if your online marketing campaign is going in the right direction for you.  So, SEM is about generating the right traffic for your site and if done correctly has the potential for fantastic ROI.
