Building your own email marketing list can be done in many ways and using numerous techniques. The most effective email marketing list building campaign is likely to utilise many different but equally effective techniques in order to generate a large list of relevant, opt in links. One effective way of harvesting email addresses from your visitors is to offer something for free.

We all love to receive freebies, it's human nature. When visitors land on the pages of your website you already know that they have an interest in the topic of your site. You should also have a clear picture of exactly the kind of information they are looking for. By offering something for free you can request a name and email address so that you can communicate with the recipient at a later date.

The free gift doesn't have to be particularly valuable. Digitally delivered products work very well and are a cost efficient email marketing technique to help build a powerful list. Ebooks, buyer's guides, newsletters, and e-courses or autoresponder series are among the more widely used and popular of free gifts.

Set up an email capture form or squeeze form in a prominent position on your site. Make it clear that you are offering something for free and while ensuring that you follow all guidelines on legitimate opt-in subscriber lists make the name and email address of the form mandatory fields. Recipients will often gladly sign up to receive these free gifts as long as they are seen to offer genuine value.
