Will Your ISP Deliver?

(No Ratings Yet)

Filed under: About Email Marketing by Nick @ 11:03 am

Email marketing usually requires the sending of a large number of emails to different email addresses. Effective email marketing will also usually requires that you send emails to your list on a regular basis and this further increases the number of emails you will need to send and therefore the load you place on your outgoing email server.

Most outbound emails are sent via your Internet Service Provider, or ISP, using the settings they provide. It's alarming to learn that billions of emails every single year simply aren't delivered or wind up in a hot pool of undeliverable emails. In a lot of cases, not only will you fail to receive a notification that this happened but if it happens regularly you may begin to experience even greater problems.

Another alarming factor is that this can be an email marketing problem even if you use what you would consider to be one of the big ISPs. While in some cases it can mean a few emails failing to get through it can, in some instances, mean an entire batch of emails that aren't delivered to their intended recipients.

You should always try to include several test email addresses in email marketing runs using a number of different email providers. As well as determining whether your emails are being delivered to certain addresses you can also use the information to try and ensure that your emails are being delivered by your own ISP. If they aren't then consider changing ISP or using a dedicated outbound email server to do a better job.
