The success of an affiliate marketing business depends largely upon the performance of your affiliate network. If the affiliates don’t make sales they will either move on to another merchant or if they don’t have the incentive to be affiliates they may just end their business. A merchant has the responsibility to provide marketing materials and a reasonable level of commission that will keep affiliates happy to be in your network. However, there is much more that has to be done to keep your affiliates motivated and help them improve their performance.

Before making any changes to your affiliate programme or sending emails to your affiliates consider what effect it will have, perhaps imagining that you are on the receiving end. If you treat your affiliates with respect and remember that your actions could have an effect on their livelihood you will build a caring reputation, not only retaining your current affiliates but gaining new ones too as word spreads.

Provide your affiliates with fresh, up to date technology to help with promotions such as RSS feeds, widgets, video and other new methods. It is no longer enough to provide a few banners and hope that will attract customers as affiliates will go to the merchants who have the better promotional tools.
