Why Affiliate Marketers Need Original Content

When setting up an affiliate website or page it can be tempting to plump for the content that most affiliate programs offer. The process of copying and pasting is certainly easier than retyping the content into your own words and using your own voice. Unfortunately, though, this can prove to be the least effective affiliate marketing model for two distinct reasons.

First off, if you intend to build traffic using search engines (and you should at the very least consider it a long term goal) then you should know that search engines will not offer the same reward to a page that uses duplicate content as to one that uses original content. The first page that the engines indexed using the content you publish will get the benefit of the on page optimisation. You will have to rely even more heavily on building links and other optimisation factors.

Human visitors also want to see unique content that is geared specifically towards them. Most people have become skilled at researching products and information on the Internet and it's unlikely that the majority of your website visitors will only view your website before making a decision. As such, the challenge is to be perceived as offering something better than your opponents even if you are promoting the exact same product at the exact same price.

Consider your specific traffic demographics and what they are likely to be looking for when they come across your site. Rewrite the content provided by the affiliate program, and by all means use this as a good basis for your own work, but be original, add your own character, and pick up on the features that are most likely to appeal to your website visitors.
