Affiliate marketing is both simple and a tricky business. The concept itself is simple, paying someone a commission from each sale that results from the advertisement you place on their website. The tricky part comes in with choosing exactly the right affiliates for your network. This is often where large affiliate marketing companies step in.

By working through one of these companies it makes your affiliate networking that much easier and less stressful. Always remember that when you are placing the future of your business into someone else’s hands, you must be very sure that they are the right people for the job.

This applies when choosing an affiliate marketing company to handle your networking and when choosing your affiliates.

Right Affiliates

Choosing the right websites to host your advertisements can do wonders for your sales statistics. Choosing the wrong ones however, can have a negative effect your business. This is a two way street so websites that do the hosting are not immune to the pitfalls.

If you are a merchant, choose your hosts on the reputation of their websites. A website with a good reputation will add prestige to your own, one with a bad reputation will have the opposite effect. This works in the same way for websites who are hosting; choosing a merchant who sells dodgy products or has a bad reputation will alienate the visitors to your own website.

The next big thing to look for is compatibility. Promote your flower pots on a gardening website and not on a baking website. Careful selection of affiliates will give you the best chance of success.
